At at Glance: Regional News of Note

The Arroyo Grande Police Department recently received several complaints from residents that a man is leaving notes on their doors requesting money to paint their residence addresses on the curb.

The notes ask that the residents leave money in their mailboxes if they'd like their street addresses painted on the curb.

The male subject is working in the city without a permit, and the work he's asking to do doesn't conform to city code, according to the department.

Investigators are asking anyone contacted by the subject to call the Police Department at 473-5100 and report his whereabouts.

Caped in controversy

TIJUANA, Mexico - Matador Omar Villase or ran his fingers through his slick, black hair, dusted off his hat and basked in the adulation of the cheering crowd.

Moments before, the Mexican bullfighter had been tossed into the air and spun around on the impressive horns of a half-ton bull named Pingalin.

Bleeding from an ugly gash in his thigh, the 23-year-old matador continued his aggressive duel with the bull, ultimately ending in its death.

Among the fans applauding Villase or were members of Los Aficionados de Los Angeles, a close-knit club that travels regularly from Southern California to watch the centuries-old - and always controversial - tradition of bullfighting.

"The music, the art and the atmosphere is what we enjoy most, not the actual killing of the bull," said Robert Garcia, 49, of Whittier who travels regularly with 25-year-old daughter Bobbie Castillo to the bullfights.

Noodle bath or red

Forget about soaking in milk and rose petals. Spa treatments are getting far more exotic than Cleopatra's famed treatment. Spas abroad are now offering noodle baths along with treatments such as beer baths, chocolate massages, red wine face masks, and diamond dust face masks.

Bangaloreans will soon get to experience these, say experts in the field. “Bangalore has the largest number of spas in India," says Dr Isaac Mathai of an ayurvedic health centre.

But he has some reservations about fancy treatments. “The industry keeps coming up with new things to woo the customer, but their benefits — especially long-term — are questionable," he points out. But that doesn't stop the city's spa junkies from trying every new treatment that's offered.

AC Sachin, personal manager of a city spa, says, “The Thai massage is very popular with our clients.
